Cytological conclusion (Цитологічний висновок)
Diagnosis: By the international classification (IRSSFC) — category AUS (Atypia of undetermined significance). The quality of the sample and the technique of slide preparation, and the absence of a cell block (відсутність цитоблоку), do not allow the origin of the cells in the dense groups to be determined cytologically (taking the clinical diagnosis into account).
Microscopic description (Мікроскопічний опис)
Low-quality sample with limited assessment of the cells (Зразок низької якості з обмеженою оцінкою клітин). On a background of protein substance and a small number of erythrocytes the preparations show groups of mesothelial cells, in places small clusters of lymphocytes and histiocytes, and single dense groups of small, relatively monomorphic cells whose genesis is difficult to determine (генез яких визначити складно).

Notes added in translation (not part of the report)
- This is a review of the slides of the Shalimov Centre cytology No. 996/26 (fluid taken 05.10.2026, report of 06.10.2026: “diagnostic category V: signs of metastasis of a malignant process”), not a new sample of fluid. The “date of sampling” 14-10-2026 is the date the slides were submitted.
- The review does not reproduce category V: it classifies the same slides as AUS (atypia of undetermined significance) and describes no definite malignant cells. AUS is an indeterminate category: malignancy in the fluid is not established, and it is not excluded either.
- The Shalimov report counted 3 preparations (Romanowsky–Giemsa); this review lists 2 slides (Pappenheim); whether a third slide exists is not known.
- The Shalimov report names “diagnostic category V” without naming the classification; this report names IRSSFC (as written; the International System for Reporting Serous Fluid Cytopathology).
- The physician named on the request, Dr O.M. Latsinnikova, is the patient’s oncologist.
- Cell morphology: the Shalimov report described small clusters with marked nuclear polymorphism and marked signs of atypia and malignancy; this review of the same slides describes dense groups of small, relatively monomorphic cells and no pleomorphic cells, even within the clusters. Bland monomorphic cells do not by themselves distinguish reactive mesothelium from a low-grade tumour, which is why a cell block with IHC is requested.
